busy week. Went to St. Barts in the city for a development and growth workshop. Then met with the auditoris and the buildings and grounds committee.

We will have to consider ways to raise money for the leak in the roof.

Wednesday was busy - but I got in a bit late. I had lunch with the ECW. Steve was looking through the books and was concerned about our cash flow. The rest of the day I worked on the bulletin. Neil stopped by to talk about our summer plans for serving at the schurmacher home. Started working on the sermon for Sunday. In the evening went to an information seesion on creating a parish nurse program. The parish nurse program, I found out, is generally focused on prevention and education. It's not meant to replace "invasive" nursing.

Thursday finished the bulletins for Sunday, both Sunday morning and evening. I realize I haven't asked anyone to help out with the dessert after Jazz Vespers. I have to get better at asking people for help around these things. Sometimes I think that these fun, spiritual, things, are just further burdens. I think I'll just hire a caterer.

next year, when I hold confirmation [I might not have any kids, I realize], It will be on my schedule, sports be damned. Wednesdays, after school, for two 6 week periods at 3:00PM [October and Lent]. I find the biggest headache I have is having to schedule things over and over. Kids would be required to come to church.

Thursday evening went over baptism with the Shofis. Friday had lunch with the Canon Theologian who is interested in helping me start a campus ministry at Purchase.

I think we should take out a $100,000 "growth" investment from the portfolio. With that $100,000 we invest in 1) hiring four section leaders to whom we give scholarships. They would be students, and we'd renegotiate every semester. At the end of each semester we would hold a concert that would raise their scholarship money. It would be competetive for Purchase, Conservatory and WPHS students. We' allocate $10,000 for major advertising and printing costs. We' allocate $6000 a year for two student teachers to help out with Sunday School.

We'd allocate $3,000 for childcare.

And $3000 for better signage.

I'd ask for more money to keep Patricia for an extra day.

The church would offer me $3000 for continuing education [for the college of preachers]. Good preaching is important to newcomers.

We wouldn't fix anything. Because people come to church for good music and a excellent worship experience. They get worried about where they should place their kids - is it a professional child caregiver? We should make sure there is always childcare - every service. Even during the summer.

I'd also need another $10,000 for hospitality. this means dinners for christian education events.

I'd like $4000 to have an assistant from Union Seminary [$2000 per semester].

But I'm just dreaming. I suspect that this kind of investment is the only way the church will grow.
